Naoko Murata

Born in Osaka in 1984. Murata completed her undergraduate degree in Japanese painting at Kyoto Seika University.
Based on a materially constructed collage, Murata creates acrylic paintings that explore the theme of time. She creates a new form which emerges from reconfiguring geometric patterns and dynamic strokes on the canvas, and overlays it onto the instant of « the present. » Through this, she attempts to visualize the ambiguous and fleeting concept of « time, » which has no physical form and can only be perceived within human consciousness. While her compositions are subdued in color, her bold brushwork and arrangement evoke a sense of dynamism within the stillness.
