Sachiko Kawakami

Born in Ehime in 1984. Kawakami completed her master’s degree in art expression at Kyoto University of Art and Design.

Interested in the moment when humans perceive/create forms, she creates works that explore the roots of cognition and shaping on the theme of perception and recognition surrounding modeling. The intricate lines are all drawn freehand and seem inorganic, yet also undulate like a living creature.

She has received numerous awards, including the Encouragement Prize at SICF11 (Spiral Independent Creators Festival) in 2010, the Excellence Award at the Sanwa Company Design Award in 2016, and selection for the 20th Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art the same year. She is also involved in various collaborative projects with companies.
