EXPOSITION DE 50E ANNIVERSAIRE BUFFET ＆ AÏZPIRI

A dream collaboration between Buffet and Aïzpiri, masters of modern French painting

Last year, Galerie Taménaga Osaka celebrated its 50th anniversary with great success. As the final event of our 50th anniversary, we are pleased to present an exhibition of works by two masters of modern French painting, Bernard Buffet (1928-1999) and Paul Aïzpiri (1919-2016). The exhibition brings together around 30 works, including portrait, landscape, still life and flowers.

Buffet and Aïzpiri were both independent artists who pursued figurative painting at a time when abstract painting was at its peak. At the same time, the Japanese art dealer Kiyoshi Taménaga (founder of Galerie Taménaga), who focused on figurative painting against the current, had a fateful encounter with them in Paris. Since then, Galerie Taménaga has been a bridge between Japan and France, introducing the contemporary French painting in Japan and presenting Buffet and Aïzpiri here in Osaka since the opening of the gallery.
