(English) Emerging Vision 2026 Press Release
Opening reception in the presence of the artists: June 27 (Sat) 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Galerie Tamenaga is pleased to present “Emerging Vision: The New Generation of Japanese Artists,” on view from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, August 16, 2026. The exhibition brings together works by five emerging Japanese artists who have garnered significant recognition since their debut in Kyoto. Showcasing a diverse range of artistic practices, the selected works convey a strong sense of vitality and emotional depth.
Launched in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this group exhibition was conceived with the aim of supporting emerging young artists. It originally began under the title “Nine Japanese Artists Captivating Paris”. In 2024, the exhibition was rebranded as “Emerging Vision,” and this edition marks its sixth installment. This exhibition presents works by five artists who have steadily gained recognition and established themselves within their respective fields.
Masako Nakahira presents, for the first time at the gallery, works from her “Transparent Room” series. The series depicts fleeting, delicate spaces encountered in transit between one window and another, opening onto landscapes that extend endlessly beyond. This exhibition also marks the first presentation in Tokyo for Chiharu Yakushigawa at Galerie Taménaga. In addition to her signature “rub” series—created by applying paint directly with both hands and feet—the exhibition features new works from her “knock” series, first unveiled in her solo exhibition at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art last year. In addition, the exhibition features works by Masayoshi Nojo, who creates “phenomena” through reconstructed photographs combined with gold leaf; Yui Komatsumoto, who expresses emotional fluctuation by layering patterned motifs onto human faces; and Kalua, whose vividly colored works explore themes of life and death. All three artists are also making their debut at Galerie Taménaga Tokyo with this exhibition.
From themes and motifs to techniques, each of the five artists expresses a distinct and individual sensibility—truly a case of “five artists, five worlds”. Their works offer a renewed sense of discovery with each viewing, continually evoking fresh emotional responses. This exhibition highlights their youthful and vibrant expressions, who are poised for further growth and development in the years ahead. We warmly invite you to take this opportunity to experience their work, and we look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition.
