Naoko Murata

Born in Osaka in 1984. Murata completed her undergraduate degree in Japanese painting at Kyoto Seika University.
Based on a materially constructed collage, Murata creates acrylic paintings that explore the theme of time. She creates a new form which emerges from reconfiguring geometric patterns and dynamic strokes on the canvas, and overlays it onto the instant of “the present.” Through this, she attempts to visualize the ambiguous and fleeting concept of “time,” which has no physical form and can only be perceived within human consciousness. While her compositions are subdued in color, her bold brushwork and arrangement evoke a sense of dynamism within the stillness.
