Takuya Osawa

Born in 1979 in Saitama. Osawa majored in Japanese traditional painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. He tries to express the mental scenery that is inherent in people by overlapping the motifs of the natural world with the urban landscape and drawing the shadows of trees swaying on the water surface. He mixes the styles of traditional Japanese lacquer and Japanese painting, which creates a soft color tone that can give viewers an optical illusion as if they see the work through a filter. He is also keen on exploring new techniques, such as stacking layers of foil and mineral pigments, and carving out the foil pasted on the paint. His works are collected by Kyoto Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo Kaikan, Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, and Raffles Hotel in Shenzhen.
