About

Galerie Tamenaga Tokyo is pleased to present “FROM G — The Present: Four Artists from Tokyo University of the Arts”, featuring works by four artists who studied at Tokyo University of the Arts: Takuya Osawa, Hiroko Otake, Kayoko Kimura, and Yuki Fujiwara.

Founded in 1887 as the Tokyo Fine Arts School, Tokyo University of the Arts has long been regarded as Japan’s most prestigious institution for art education and has played a central role in shaping modern Japanese art. Across a wide range of disciplines—including Japanese-style painting, oil painting, sculpture, crafts, and design—the university has emphasized both the preservation of tradition and the pursuit of new forms of expression suited to each era, producing many outstanding artists.

This exhibition presents approximately 25 works by four artists who share the common foundation of having studied at Tokyo University of the Arts, yet who have each developed highly distinctive artistic practices.

Takuya Osawa creates poetic landscapes of the mind by layering imagery of the city and nature through his unique techniques. Hiroko Otake depicts dreamlike worlds in which motifs such as butterflies and flowers embody both creation and dissolution. Kayoko Kimura explores universal themes such as time and the cycle of life by rendering floral forms through layered lines. Yuki Fujiwara visualizes the vital energy of life through surrealistic scenes in which flowers and animals appear in dynamic movement. Together, their works bring vibrant color and vitality to the exhibition space.

Although the four artists share the same educational starting point, the techniques and perspectives they have developed diverge in compelling ways. The contrasts and resonances among their practices form one of the central highlights of this exhibition. We warmly invite you to take this opportunity to experience the rich diversity of their individual expressions.
