Hiroko Otake

She majored in Japanese traditional painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. She stayed in New York for the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists. She creates expressive colors and textures using traditional Japanese painting techniques such as mineral pigments and foil, and develops them into an elegant and dreamy world. Her works define flowers and butterflies as a symbol of fluid time, which is also a Japanese aesthetic sense, and as a symbol of heart and soul. She delicately expresses the ephemeral and beautiful life that transforms between generation, growth and death. Also, she has worked on collaborated projects in different fields including, performance, fashion and interior design. Her activities that exceed the genre of Japanese painting have been highly evaluated both in Japan and overseas.
