Merry Cherry Blossom

Galerie Taménaga Kyoto is pleased to present the exhibition“Merry Cherry Blossom” on view from March 20 (Fri) to April 26 (Sun).

Held every spring, this annual exhibition is dedicated to the theme of cherry blossoms and features works by a total of 15 artists, ranging from Kyosuke TCHINAI to promising emerging talents.
Approximately 40 works, including new pieces created especially for this exhibition, will be on display, vividly celebrating the arrival of spring.

This year also marks the gallery’s fifth spring, making it a particularly meaningful occasion. The exhibition will feature approximately 40 works by 15 artists, ranging from established masters such as Kyosuke Tchinai and Tamihito Yoshikawa to promising emerging artists with fresh and vibrant sensibilities. Including newly created works specially produced for this exhibition, these diverse artistic expressions will fill the gallery space with the atmosphere of spring.

Kyosuke Tchinai conveys the Japanese aesthetic of mono no aware through cherry blossoms using his distinctive technique of acrylic on washi paper. Tamihito Yoshikawa abstracts the imagery of floating cherry blossoms (hanaikada), layering colors to evoke the passage of springtime. Yurika Kinoshita expresses the energy of scattering blossoms through bold, hand-drawn colors in abstract compositions. Daiya Yamamoto, employing trompe-l’œil techniques combined with the Japanese aesthetic of negative space, meticulously depicts the subtle presence of cherry branches as if they truly exist before the viewer. Together with these artists, fifteen painters present their own interpretations of this quintessential symbol of spring, gathered here in Kyoto.

This exhibition has been conceived to offer visitors the opportunity to experience a wide variety of cherry blossom expressions as seen through the unique perspectives of each artist. We hope that encountering cherry blossoms transformed into art—distinct from their appearance in nature—will bring you a renewed sense of joy in the arrival of spring.
